Supportive Hands

Quality support for independent living

About Us

We are a values-driven organisation committed to supporting people to live independent, meaningful, and fulfilling lives within their own communities. Our approach is built on respect, choice, and partnership — ensuring that every individual we support is treated as an expert in their own life.

At the heart of everything we do is a simple aim: to support people to feel safe, valued, and empowered in their own lives. We are committed to continuous learning, reflection, and improvement so our service remains inclusive, responsive, and focused on what truly matters to the people we support.

Our Approach

Get to Know Us

We believe that good support is not about doing things for people, but about working with them. We take time to understand what matters most to each person, recognise their strengths, and support them to achieve their goals at their own pace. Our focus is on enabling independence, building confidence, and supporting people to live the life they choose.

Get to Know Us

Our service is grounded in person-centred and strengths-based practice. We work closely with individuals, families, and professionals to develop support that reflects personal preferences, aspirations, and needs. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all model, we tailor our support so it fits around the individual — not the other way around.

Standards & Guiding Principles

Our approach to supported living is underpinned by a clear commitment to quality, safety, and rights-based practice. We align our standards with relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and recognised best practice across health and social care to ensure our service is ethical, transparent, and person-centred.

These standards shape how our service is designed and developed, influencing our training, supervision, safeguarding arrangements, and partnership working. By embedding these principles into everyday practice, we aim to deliver supported living services that are safe, empowering, and focused on enabling people to live independent and meaningful lives.

Commitment to Quality and Safety

Our organisation is committed to delivering high-quality, safe, and ethical supported living services. We operate with clear standards that prioritise individual rights, wellbeing, and independence. Our policies, procedures, and ways of working are designed to reflect statutory guidance, professional best practice, and a strong culture of accountability.

Wellbeing and Independence

Our approach is guided by the principles of the Care Act 2014, which places individual wellbeing at the heart of all support. This includes promoting independence, choice, dignity, and participation in community life. We focus on prevention, early support, and enabling people to achieve outcomes that matter to them, while working in partnership with individuals, families, and professionals.

Rights, Dignity and  Support

Where individuals are supported with mental health needs, our practice is informed by the Mental Health Act and its Code of Practice. We recognise the importance of protecting people’s rights, promoting dignity, and ensuring that any support provided is proportionate and least restrictive. Our aim is to support recovery, inclusion, and meaningful engagement in everyday life.

Supporting Decision-Making

We follow the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, ensuring that individuals are supported to make their own decisions wherever possible. We presume capacity unless there is clear evidence otherwise and provide information in accessible ways to support understanding. Where best-interest decisions may be required, these are approached transparently, proportionately, and with the individual’s wishes and feelings at the centre.

Safeguarding  and Risk Management

Safeguarding is a fundamental part of our standards. Our approach reflects the Making Safeguarding Personalframework, focusing on prevention, empowerment, and outcomes that matter to the individual. We are committed to identifying risks early, responding appropriately to concerns, and working with relevant agencies to ensure safe and supportive environments.

Equality, Diversity and Human Rights

We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of our service. Our practice is guided by the Equality Act 2010 and wider human rights principles. We respect and value each person’s identity, background, beliefs, and lived experience, and we work to ensure support is inclusive, respectful, and free from discrimination.
